Why can't they hold the plane 5 minutes?

Needed to get our connection in Salt Lake from Reno. We get on the Reno runway and they had a faulty computer board that required we return to the gate for a specialist to come out and repair. We deplaned and talked to the Reno attendant about our options if we didn't make our connection. The repair was done and the plane was going to land at the same time our connection was set to depart. We had 15 people needing to make that connection and Reno said they would phone ahead and let them know.

We arrive and find the gate is next to us. We see the connection pulling out of the gate as we ran to get on it. If they had held it 5 minutes or even 2 minutes, we would have all made it. As it was they had given our seats away to standby and had us already rebooked the next day, so they never intended to hold that plane for us.

We got hotel/meal vouchers and a $200.00 flight voucher, but I'm still very upset they couldn't hold it for a few minutes. I can understand 20-30 minutes late, but not this and they knew ahead of time we were coming in on a tight schedule, so it wasn't a surprise like inclement weather.

If I had voluntarily given up my seat, I would have gotten $400.00 and booked on the next flight. Instead I get $200.00 and lost my seat through no fault of my own.

I feel very annoyed with Delta. Now they lost my business and most likely the 14 others as well the cost to voucher everyone for hotels, meals and future flights all because they couldn't hold for a few minutes.

Is it worth fighting them for a higher flight voucher? I'll fly Delta free, but not going to pay for a Delta flight in the future.
