Every Amtrak discount makes the itinerary more expensive
Booking 6 tickets for my family and my parents to NY-Penn Station from Richmond, VA (RVR) for Spring Break week (April 17-20). Total fare for everybody is $620, not too bad, happy to pay it.

My beef is that every discount I try (e.g., AAA, Senior-Citizen Discount, NARP, etc.) results in a fare that is more than $700. Literally every discount code results in a fare that is MORE expensive. What's up with that?
