It's pretty important to my business when I am on the road as well - so my Verizon wireless Internet card is nearly essential to me. I can use it whether or not there is Internet provided in my hotel, as well as any other number of locations (even the train).
But in this instance I fault the hotel for not stating up front there was no service, and the OP for not requesting to be walked since the HGI offer includes "free Internet" and it was not available (was Ethernet connection available? That would change the issue IMO...)

I'm afraid I don't. An Internet connection is as critical to me as hot water or pillows, and more important than a lot of things, like TV. I would ask to be moved to another hotel, or have my stay comped.
