A lot of people seem to like the Sheraton Commander in Cambridge. It's on Garden Street next door to the FAS registrar's office. I think it's fine, but the Charles is nicer. Just try not to get a "pool room", one of the rooms that always smells like chlorine. Breakfast at Henrietta's Table is a treat. In Harvard Square, I'd say the Charles is the best bet, followed by the Inn at Harvard and then the Commander. The Harvard Square Hotel is more downscale, although I think it's Doubletree-managed.
