Agree with all the others:
- you stand a chance if your flight is overbooked and they look for volunteers,
- you stand a chance if your flight is significantly delayed and previous ones has seats left,
- you stand zero chance otherwise. DL and most US airlines offer same day standby for elite pax, AF KL and most European airlines (except easyjet) simply don't full stop (unless you pay for your flexible ticket).
