My only other question i guess, is can you use SWU if you buy a ticket at Amextravel.com, use cash and/or MR points to pay, and then still use SWU? I know you earn OP miles if you do this.
Best bet is to use SWU's. They can be used with any published revenue fare class. If Amex ticket earns OP miles, then it books in to a revenue class. Yes, you should be able to use SWU.
Its somewhat hard to use SWU if you are flying on a UA-codeshare flight number operated by CO.
