I don't know how long you've lived in New York but as a native I take exception to this remark. As a world class city the service one finds in NY is often the finest available. However, at the same time, being a city of its size you will come across many different types of people, some with less than stellar personalities who prefer to take on a "hardened" city approach.</font>
I've lived in NYC for several years now and I'm well accustomed to the kind of attitude one can expect to receive at these faux-chic lounges. It's been my experience at these kinds of places that the staff gets wrapped up in their own world and develops a lousy attitude of being too chic/cool for patrons.
That's been my experience; YMMV.
