The example of automated machines in train stations is good, and it is also true in France. But otherwise I never had any problem using my French Amex, in Europe, USA or Asia. Why do I pay 520 Euros for the Plat card version ? Because I travel and in Europe card comes with Priority Pass card. Also plenty of insurances, which are not granted with Gold card for French card cardholders who do not reside in France. I like also the free supplementary card for my companion.
If I stopped traveling I would go back to Green card. If I became broke I would go back to use of Visa and Mastercard only.
