To ensure that the accessibility of BA Gold status is perceived as accessible to the common herd, BA could conduct an Annual Grand Draw ... whereby [for example] 10 lowly Blues could be allowed to bypass Silver and be given complimentary Gold status for a year.

This would encourage these people to strive to maintain their status, or at least achieve a soft landing to Silver. At the same time, they would assuredly assiduously apply themselves to 'Flying BA' and thus earn a skip of ££££/$$$$ for the Company.

And ... BA would be able to proudly state to the World that there are nn,nnn BAEC Gold Members, thus implying that status IS achievable.

I volunteer to be a test case.
