This is a good question, one that Randy occasionally fielded with great eloquence. Let's see how I do in my first weeks as the new Community Director.
This has been the policy ever since moderators on FlyerTalk have existed. We really respect members on FlyerTalk. We don't allow public discussion of members. Moderators are members first and foremost. They donate their time as moderators, often many hours a week. They do a lot of great things to keep information accessible and forums friendlier.
I was a moderator here for 8 years or so. Does it mean our decisions are perfect? Absolutely not. Is it worth having a conversation with us about them? Yes. I had a some notes sent to me about decisions that I made. I saw the member's point and overturned a couple of them. I realized that I had responded in haste when I read at leisure. As a moderator member, I sent a few notes to fellow moderators. I didn't always get the answer I wanted as a member. Within the context of how that particular forum was organized, the moderators felt that the best possible decision was made to benefit all members and not just me.
If you have a concern or a compliment about a forum or a thread, send a note to the forum moderators. If you still have a concern, send a note to me. I enjoy hearing from members who have passion about FlyerTalk and who want the board to be even better than it is today.
