Virgin don't do seat
reservations, they do seat
requests.
I am a Virgin Atlantic gold card holder with 100+ flights over the years, and I still get moved after I have requested a seat sometimes, with no explanation - not even aircraft change.
I can usually manage to move back, but the OP needs to keep a watch on his seats and check in early to stand the best chance of not being disappointed.
