I'll be flying into JFK on AA, arriving at around 7:30 pm. My international flight out doesn't depart until just past 1 am. What are my options before getting to the international terminal / gate area? Would it be better to hang out in the domestic terminal and check in a little later for my international flight? (if I have to check in twice--imagine I'd have all my boarding passes on departure from RDU).

Once I arrive in JFK from my domestic flight, do I actually have to pass through security again to get to my international gate? It's a pain to go through security twice in one day.
