Actually Amex is a big advantage in Europe because Amex has not adopted chip and pin. So anyplace that will take it will yours (unlike Visa/MC, where you're often SOL without the chip)
I had problems buying a rail ticket in Vienna which had the AMEX sign but the darn automated machine only accepted Chip & PIN.
Must be because I'm not important enough to AMEX's eyes that I'm only qualified to have an AA Citibank AMEX card?
