For international tickets this isn't always the case. aa.com will offer the cheapest ticket based on your travel dates and the ticket it sells may have restrictions such as travel must be completed within a specific period of time, such as 90 days.
To make sure you purchase the correct ticket, plug in the latest possible return date for your itinerary or call reservations and book a ticket with them directly so that you know the fare rules prior to purchasing.
