I would be happy with the next earliest flight which would give us just under 23 hours in Paris; but, of course would not argue with the 10:15AM departue from MAD which would give us 25 hours in Paris!

Your chance is close to zero. Just enjoy the morning in MAD, then enjoy the evening in Paris.
In my experience you have no chance. Even as an AF Gold/plat they tend to be inflexible. Of course, there is always a minuscule chance if you cry and beg, but they might charge you more than what you paid for the full ticket. Better to relax and enjoyed as scheduled.
