i'm going to be attending the Abu Dhabi Book Fair next month. it will be my first visit to this nation. Have Monday off to doing any good touring then at the expo center tues & wed, departing Thurs...
As far as hotels, I'm looking for a nice hotel that has a beach, decent bar and restaurant, where I can still walk to shops/restaurants - somewhat downtown?
I'd appreciate any recommendations.

The Sheraton, Le Meridien, and Beach Rotana best fit your request. The latter is connected to a shopping mall, but all three are basically in the same area.
I stayed at that Intercontinental last weekend, for the first time. I was disappointed. For a hotel that was basically gutted for a lengthy renovation, the lobby, rooms, and F&B outlets (with the exception of the Yacht Club) are surprisingly dumpy. The pool and beach are average. The club lounge is OK -- with great views -- and the service was solid. But overall it didn't feel so special; by comparison, the IC Dubai Festival City is far nicer.
