Should I consider staying there? Also, is the area safe?
The area offers a very unusual experience - probably the closest to being in Asia without actually going to Asia. Excellent asian food, cheap foot massage, bakeries/pastry shops - lots of good stuff within 5-10 min walk. The area around is quite safe and pedestrian friendly (again think asia).
However most places you mention are quite far considering LA traffic so keep this in mind.
