You are supposed to have just one SPG membership number for both Starwood Preferred Guest and Starwood Preferred Planner (perhaps, there is a way around it). If you are designated as a Preferred Planner, you only earn 1 Starpoint per $3 spent, instead of regular 2 points per $ (3 points if you are Gold or Platinum).
