No. I was waitlisted together with my wife for the A380 flight from SYD to DXB for several month. When I checked "manage your booking" online, it showed this part of our trip as "waitlist".
Nearer to the flight date I phoned EK 2 or 3 times and asked for a confirmation. The answer was that nothing can be done at the moment, but that we are on the priority waitlist, which will clear if there is availability.
The last week before the flight I checked "manage my booking" daily. 5 days before the flight the "waitlist" changed to "confirmed".
I phoned EK again, because the miles for the upgrades had to be deducted seperatly from our accounts, which was done immediately.
