Apparently the country has plenty of money to waste on the TSA standing around doing nothing.
I try to make it a practice to never wait near the actual gate where I will depart. Rather, I try to sit near a gate across the concourse and, if possible, a gate or two to the side. Then I make my way to the actual gate only when boarding commences. If the TSA wants to gate search me at D5, for example, I can tell them to pound sand. My flight will be out of D8.
