one other suggestion....
the 'owner' of your e-vip ask the exp desk for expire date extension - since it was 'pulled' and then returned.
I've had a similar thing happen - where I've been upgraded during at the 15 min window - a plane arrived with several full fare passengers who ran from their connecting gate to the departure gate - and I was told my upgraded seat was no longer available - and of course - lost my excellent coach seat - doesn't happen often - but happens.
