Like most flyertalk posts - there is a clear lack of information from the OP on the exact ticket the EXP purchased and various other things that might have entitled him to the seat. Perhaps he paid for a first class seat? (amongst other options.)
Sucks to get yanked out, but we've all seen people shuffled around a plane for various reasons taht defy explanation.
Edit: Id still whine to aa.com. I'm sure they'll give you 5k miles just for the complaint like they always do.
