While other OW competition do offer free food, it's often limited. You have to pay for most food at the AC, but at least it's available. I've been to a number of JL lounges where the food selection was truly awful, and the only alternative is to head back to the terminal.

And the AAngels are a cut above anything I've seen in any other OW J lounge. Agents in other lounges are rarely proactive, and often seem put-upon if I ask anything about my reservation that is more complicated than a seat change.
Have you been to LHR, HKG, SYD or MAD? ACs are the worst lounges in the OW system.

The key issue is that you cannot give the same food and drink to someone that is paying 5k for a J ticket or is a premium FF than to someone who paid an annual membership of 600 and use it 50 times a year. How happy would you be to have the "privilige" of using the AC on a 5k ticket?
