Generally in Y the FAs are happy to give you 20ml of water twice in the flight on an 8 hour trip. That isn't healthy. You are not being selfish by asking for some more, it is the airline being tight / inconsiderate and irresponsible by not giving you more.
This is something I like in CW, crew regularly pass through the cabin with water, juice. Every hour or so.
But even in Y there is no shortage of drinks. Just go to the galley and they normally have a tray with water and juice cups. I doubt BA restricts water runs for saving money, it's simply not part of the Y product. You have to get it yourself by walking to the galley or press the call button.
