If you want to see tulips and windmills there is no need to spend 225 Euro per night on an overpriced hotel in Amsterdam.

Why don't you stay in another town - such as Leiden or Haarlem or Utrecht, to name just a few? For day trips to see tulips and windmills these towns are just as convenient as Amsterdam (and you can also take day trips to Amsterdam from there!), but you're likely to get a much better room at a much more reasonable rate.

I hardly ever stay in Amsterdam overnight when I visit the Netherlands.
