I am just curious about something. I remember in the 1990s flying out of Toronto's terminal 2. I remember the USA transborder gates had letters after the gate number. Example: 92G, 94L, 98Q. I once flew out of gate 98Q on an Air Ontario plane to Hartford, Connecticut. It was not from the satellite building.

What was the purpose of the letters after the gate numbers?
