There is lots of service DTW-AMS. The last time I was connecting for AMS I had nearly a three hour connection scheduled on DL's theory that I could not make the twenty-odd minute connection to the previous flight.

However, my flight arrived DTW timely and the gate for the earlier flight was on the way to the SkyClub so I stopped to see what was going on. There were seats and the GA was pleased as punch to put me on.

I do not know how that would work for someone with no status but it does show that most of the time, changes at DTW can be made in twenty minutes or less.
