I consider myself a bit of an expert in deciphering English, and I am particularly fluent in Chinglish. But I have a very good friend for the past 4 years who lives two buildings away from my flat in HKG, he was born in the UK and brought up in OZ. To this day, I swear I can only understand 30% of what he says.
Hang out in an ex-pat bar for a few days. Some of the best culture clash stories are absolutely hilarious. A lot of them revolve around the American rube who just stepped off the boat. I would tell my HKG escalator story, but the upstanding decorum and impeccable nature of this forum prevents me.
