I checked into the Sheraton Maui. Independent reservation, not part of any group. As an SPG member with Platinum status I booked a garden view room and was upgraded to an ocean front room.

A few hours after check in, I returned to my room. I had a phone message. It was from “Rick." Rick asked me to stop by his desk in the lobby to pick up my free gift. Rick also wanted to share with me some of his favorite places in Maui.

“Rick”, was manning the timeshare desk for the new Westin Timeshare property. The gift was a $100.00 gift certificate for the 90 minute presentation. I stayed clear of Rick, but registered my displeasure at the front desk. The clerk knew nothing about it.

As a paying guest in a hotel, any hotel, I did not appreciate the phone message one bit.
