There is no additional security. Coming from Phoenix, you should be on Concourse A and connecting in Concourse A. Look at the display monitors in the terminal for your connecting gate. If you see a red train symbol next to your connection, it means from where you are located - it will be (most likely) faster to utilize the overhead train that runs the length of 1.1 mile concourse A.

Others on FT might be able to chime in regarding connecting to AMS and when the boarding door will close. I have not had an international connection at DTW.
