If you were authorized interim expenses by an airport agent or the Central Baggage Office Call Centre, you may request your reimbursement by providing Air Canada Baggage Claims (see contact information below) with the following documents within 21 days of returning from your travels:
•Your completed Baggage Declaration Form or a letter summarizing your claim for compensation;
•All original receipts;
•Your WorldTracer File Reference Number;
•Flight information and passenger names; and
•Baggage tags and boarding passes.
A word of caution. AC's interpretation of "within 21 days returning from your travels" is "within 21 days of your plane landing, even if outbound". A couple years ago AC lost our baby's playpen on the outbound flight. I did the paperwork at the airport, called AC and got the tracer's number; for the next six months we stayed abroad and I kept following the "search" in the tracer's website, and I even called AC a couple times to provide more information that could help finding the playpen. When we finally come back 6 months later I send the paperwork, and I got a letter back stating that "because you didn't send the claim form within 21 days of the baggage lost, we are not able to search for it". In other words, the "we are searching" message in the tracer's website is just smoke and mirrors.
That said, after AC's denial I sent the claim to my Aerogold Visa, and they paid quickly and without any questions. Quite a difference.
