No – he was most likely not on a power trip. I see this same rule enforced all the time. Age indiscriminate. FAs are people and they are all a little different. Some are more savvy at enforcing iPad and kindle (or laptops for that matter) storage than others.
If I was sitting in F, had my cool iPad and wanted to use it at 10k+ because I was 20 years younger than anyone else up front I would sit behind the first row were I could store it. If I had to sit in the bulkhead row, I’d store it out of site until the plane was above 10k.
