Baggage claim at YYZ, helping partner?

Hi all,

Ms. Tuneman1984 is coming to visit me next week, flying in on AC 8 on the 18th. As we're in the midst of moving her to T.O., she'll be bringing a couple of loaded suitcases, along with her carry-on allowance. Trouble is, her neck and back still give her a lot of trouble when lifting due to a previous car accident injury. She's fine on the other end as she's getting a lift to the airport, but it's when she arrives that I'm trying to help. Of course, since baggage claim is behind closed doors, I can't just go an meet her like I would in most other Canadian airports.

So here are three options/ideas as I see it:

1. Fly into YYZ and arrive around the same time

If I had the money, I probably would. I have a free rental day coupon I could use from National to get me up to YSB or YOW, or others. But money is tight so it doesn't look like a possibility unless the fares dropped significantly.

2. Book a Latitude fare out of YYZ

I was wondering if this would work, but I wouldn't want to potentailly corner myself. I can imagine for TC reasons they can't refund you over the phone if you're checked in already, which I imagine would mean turning in my boarding pass and being back at square one outside security. That and I don't have the capital to sink into a Latitude fare and then await a refund. Never mind the fact that I'm not one to outright "abuse the system", I limit my abuse to be a bit more discreet and tactful.

3. Ask if I can greet her in baggage claim

Is this even a possibility? I've seen them let through parents of UM's and those meeting elderly or disabled travellers. But is there anyone in the airport authority I could talk to and ask about just going into the baggage area (not even right to the gate).

Appreciate everyones help and insight. It's not the end of the world if she has to get her own bags and then meet me outside, but it would make her a bit sore and I want her to be comfortable and relaxed for her first full visit to Ontario.

Cheers!
