Are the Grande and the Royal both 30 minutes at midnight and 7am respectively?
I guess I should factor in the cost of a cab being $25 roundtrip + the use of 4500(Grande) or 2000(Royal) points vs. the cost of the Amari.
That brings me to another point, have you guys ever heard of a hotel that costs 3000 being out of regular rooms but saying that you could get an award room if you use the 3000+1500 upgrade points?
That's what the Grande told me. If you go to their website at
http://www.sheratongrandesukhumvit.com/rooms.asp they show their lowest category of room as a Deluxe. Well, if I go to book a room on SPG.com, they show Deluxe rooms available, along with many other rooms.
Oddly, when I call to book using points they tell me that they are all out of deluxe rooms and that I must use 1500 points to upgrade to a suite to book a room there. The Platinum concierge I am working with tells me that as far as he can see in the future they are out of standard 3000 point awards and require the booking of a suite to get a room although they show Deluxe rooms available.
Are they trying to change their category on their own?
What irritates me about this is that had I just booked a standard Deluxe I would have probably been upgraded to a suite for free because they are wide open available the night I am going.
