I would put it in a sealed envelope, wrapped that in a shirt, put that in the bottom of your carryon and lock the carryon on with a lock that is NOT TSA approved. Do that long before you get to the checkpoint.
If they need to go through your carryon, they will will have to wait until you're present to open it and the likelihood of it being seen anyway is slimmer than if it was just thrown in your bag or kept on your person.
With that said, if you choose to opt out or are forced to have a resolution patdown after NOS, demand that they bring your bag to you. Keep your bags in view at all times.
