Oh and an extra thought: if it weren't for the companion certs and I was choosing between US Y at $900 or so, vs AC F at $1400 or so, I'd pick the AC flight because $500 for a transcon in F instead of Y works for me. It's these pesky certificates that are throwing a spanner in the gears.
