The 773s are believed to be compensation related for the 787 non-delivery. BA have made it clear that does not mean they are now committed to the 773 as 744 replacements - this is still undecided andthe A350 is a strong candidate for this.

I hope BA never order a 747-8 - the core of this is a 40 year old design now and there are only so many re-hashes of something this old before a clean sheet becomes a better prospect. IMHO the 747 has had it's day in the pax variant and the worlds airlines have pretty much already voted with their feet. IIRC, BA have quite publicly rejected the 747-8 too and said it is not under consideration for future fleet.
