I don't mind AS not connecting the dots. The less dots that are connected, the better my routing options are for maximizing the miles.
In fact, I'd much rather they expand some new routes out of LAX. Forget SEA-PHL--why do that when they can do LAX-PHL? That way, I can do ANC-PDX-SEA-LAX-PHL and earn an extra 3,000 miles round-trip.
Or even better: pick a city near the Mississippi (say, SDF), add some nonstops from ANC, and make it a focus city. Then relax the fare routing rules to allow me to do things like ANC-SDF-SEA-LAX-DCA. For a fare competitive with DL. I would then  Alaska Airlines forever.

(Four and a half of those and I'm 75K. ^)
All kidding aside, I'd rather they expand to new destinations than add nonstops, but then again, connections don't usually bother me. Additional frequencies on some routes would be nice, though, for better schedule options.

Only as a direct flight via SLC. Kinda maddening, actually, as it kills the upgrade chances, since V class has to be available on both flights for an upgrade to clear.
