Best way to complain about bad experience?

I had a bad experience at a Hilton hotel today. I was wondering what your opinions are on the best way to complain to Hilton. Should I go directly to the hotel manager or am I better off going to Hilton Honors? I'm traveling for work and someone else is picking up the bill, so what should I expect in terms of compensation for a bad experience? Hilton Honors points?
