I too am hoping for CAI in the first week of May.

I would suggest waiting and monitoring the situation, but have a backup destination planned just in case.

A similar protest against the government and people occurred in Thailiand in April of 2010 and I was able to get from SIN-HKT without difficulties in July. In this case, there were many rounds of ammunition exchanged between the army and the protestors... Don't know if the fatality number was the same though... Thankfully, the country's tourism regained traction quite easily.

However, there is no sense going if you can't even get to see the pyramids, which are behind locked gates at the moment I hear...
