When using BA miles, you have to use the BA award chart. Domestic one way is 12.5k, and then for business or first, you multiply the base rate by 2 or 3 (respectively) - no way around it if you're using BA miles.

However, if AA shows availability at the Saver rate, then you should be able to book it using BA miles. Often times ba.com won't show the availability, but when you call up an agent should be able to see it.
