Just playing along...
"Immediately" is not a legal term and is your interpretation. What is the legal definition of "without any delay"? One second? Two hours? Is it a fixed time for any type of contract or can it vary based on the nature of contract?
I do agree that the longer they wait, the more difficult they make it for themselves. Of course, the distance and the holiday season may pose some problems in quick resolution.
