The Chinese supermarket I frequent has quite a large range or jars and ready made sauces.

If you find something that is better than you can make yourself then I'd say use, guilt free. It's like stock cubes to me - I could make stock, but the step up in quality isn't huge for most things (although i like making ham soup using a smoked hough), so I use cubes or those jelly things.
