I have pretty much figured on splitting this trip now.

5 nights, with day trips to see the tulips as well as the places you mentioned (and windmills!) should be enough. I take LOTS of photos so I want to be sure to see the windmills and tulips at least.

The other three nights are up in the air. I did visit Brussels and Bruges in Nov 2009.
