I recently flew on American Airlines' BOS to LHR route Economy class for the first time. I booked my ticket about two months in advance, and I got a fairly decent deal. The plane I flew on is a Boeing 767, which is a fairly big plane. My flight left in the evening, so I would arrive at LHR early in the morning.
When I sat down, I was a little surprised that none of the passengers on this flight would have a personal TV screen to watch movies, look at a map to see where you are and the time of arrival, and other in-flight entertainment options. All the overseas flights that I have been on usually have this as a standard on Economy class. I guess this is understandable because I am flying in a Boeing 767. Also, the flight from BOS to LHR was about 6-7 hours, unlike a flight from EWR to HKG, which is about 15-16 hours and those flights are usually flown on much larger aircraft than a Boeing 767.
As for comfort, it was fairly difficult to get some sleep on the airplane. Although I was given a comfortable pillow, the seats did not feel soft enough. Also, the flight encountered a fair amount of turbulence. The turbulence was so violent, I actually could see the seats vibrate, and cabin walls shaking. I think I barely got 2 1/2 hours of sleep.
There were two meals included on this flight, dinner and a light breakfast. For dinner, I had the choice between chicken or beef. I chose beef. The dinner consisted of stewed beef, with mashed potatoes and vegetables in a small container, salad, a bread roll, some crackers, a brownie, and a small bottle of water. The beef was okay, it tasted bland, and it was a little rough to chew, causing pieces of the beef to get stuck in my teeth. The mashed potatoes were decent, while the vegetables obviously tasted like they came out of a can. Salad was fairly fresh though, and it was okay. The bread was not good. It was very rough to chew, and it was still cold. I secretly put away the water, crackers and brownie in my baggage in case I needed a snack later on.
The light breakfast consisted of a croissant and a small cup of orange juice. The croissant was warm and tasty but too buttery, so I needed a moist towelette to get rid of the grease on my hands. Service throughout the entire flight was okay, nothing remarkable.
Overall, this was not a great flight, but not a terrible one. I think what American Airlines needs to improve on for this flight is food quality, comfort, and possibly in-flight entertainment options. My 3-Star rating still stands, but I'll probably still turn to American Airlines for decent deals from BOS to LHR.

Thought some on FT would get a few laughs over this one. The guy obviously hasn't traveled much or is familiar about AA's transatlantic offerings but did a good objective review of AA's 767-300ER BOS-LHR service. He also doesn't understand that a 763 is about the same size of the 777 he flew on CO EWR-HKG; and a 763 could easily be fitted with individual AVOD. I can't wait to see his review once the route is operated with 75L.
