A redemption on Aeroplan for travel on a partner carrier will cost more miles, but probably fewer dollars. Then it becomes a question of the dollar value which you assign to the extra miles charged.
The ANA fees are indeed hefty...

I've read that Aeroplan will let you cross two oceans on an award - I think that applies to a Europe or an Asia award... So in case you want to make it a much bigger trip than you had initially planned...

I was starting to plan some BMI mileage accrual, but LH is taking over so many are concerned about BMI miles losing some/much of their previous value. I don't know much about that so see the BMI board for more.
