How Dangerous is this: strategy for award travel to/from BKK over Xmas?

We are a family of 6 planning to travel to Thailand over Chrismas/New Years Dec. 2011/Jan 2012.

Currently I hold 4 one way Y award tickets for the munchkins IAD-NRT-BKK on Dec. 17 (2 saver, 2 standard, and before anyone asks, no, there was no C or F saver awards available).

I currently hold 1 saver award coming home on Dec. 31 (BKK-NRT-IAD), but we have decided to come home on Jan 2.

There are no saver awards available BKK-NRT on Jan 2, but there is 4 saver awards NRT-IAD available. If I mixed standard BKK-NRT with saver NRT-IAD, I am assuming this would be on 2 different PNRs. By mixing, I am saving 12,500 miles/ticket...this adds up...A LOT!!! If irrops happened, would I be totally screwed in NRT? Currently, the transit time in NRT is 1 hour.

Thanks for all of your help.
