Last week I found flights between MAD and TXL, via AMS or CDG, for 25,000 plus about $140 in tax and fees. There are non-SkyTeam flights that cost less than the tax, but with awful schedules. In this example a call to Delta would be wise to see if any Air Europa awards are available.
