Just seems simpler to give your F seat to the person sitting in the middle seat in Y next to your companion.
Unless your companion doesn't have status, and gets swept back to E- once you're upgraded out of the adjacent seat.
Hopefully a low-probability event given the timing of upgrades, but it sure would make me nervous.
