Bassinets in C would be a plus but I wasn't even thinking of them - IME flat beds in C (at least on UA or CX or AC) have enough space to have an infant while fully open, but in sitting position it is indeed a challenge. CX does have several bassinets in C so that would be of help.

No concerns about safety and probably no car seats at destination - I can't envision any need for them in places like Thailand or Bali.

Overall looks like a major pain (as anticipated).
I need to look into NZ skycouch and perhaps head to NZ instead.
Think it would be tough to get a 1 year old in a bassinet, at least on CX. When we flew JFK-HKG-TPE-HKG-SFO on CX with our 4-month old, he barely fit in the bassinet. We only used it on the TPE-HKG leg.

For us, it was 2 of us and only 1 child, and we went the 2 F route vs 3 Y, and are very glad that we did. Wasn't that much of a difference between miles for C and F, and it made a big difference, IMO.

On CX, you can't use car seats in the herringbone C config. Not sure about other airlines.
